The Transport Technology Forum brings together local and national government, the supply chain and academia to support local delivery of innovative and sustainable transport technology solutions.

The Forum enables road operators and their suppliers to exchange information and work collaboratively to achieve a more cohesive approach.

The Forum encourages the adoption of new ways of thinking and innovative technical solutions for the improvement of traffic flow through better network operation and management. This in turn delivers significant environmental, economic and social benefit to the UK.

The Forum promotes dialogue between suppliers, councils and policy-makers in government.

The Forum’s role includes, but is not limited to:

  • Connected Vehicles
  • Urban Traffic Management and Control (UTMC)
  • Smart Parking
  • Open Data
  • Digital Services
  • Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure
  • Cross-border standards

The TTF has no statutory remit, but receives funding from the Department for Transport and InnovateUK.

How We Work

The Transport Technology Forum works with a wide range of partners, each bringing their own particular area of expertise to the table.

Most of the Forum’s outputs and activities are delivered through working groups. These groups bring together experts from the private sector, public bodies, academia, trade associations and other key stakeholders.

Priorities are agreed by the working groups and formalised into discrete projects. The outputs from each project are published and widely disseminated.

Regular meetings provide the necessary momentum, reviewing outputs and ensuring that they deliver real value to stakeholders.

The TTF holds an annual conference in the spring, with a one-day update every autumn.  It also participates in a wide variety of industry and sector conferences, exhibitions and other events.

The Forum facilitates meetings and seminars to encourage a free-flow of information and ideas, encouraging a more collaborative way of working among road operators.

The Transport Technology Forum leads UK participation in European and World ITS Congresses, bringing together government and supplier interests.

The TTF has a collaboration agreement with ERTICO – ITS Europe and is leading the UK Government’s participation in the 2027 ITS World Congress at the NEC in Birmingham and is actively working with the regional host (West Midlands Combined Authority).

Our Partners

The TTF works with a range of other organisations in the wider technology sector to ensure we deliver the support and guidance needed by practitioners and are able to reach the maximum number of people interested in the subject.

Bodies we work with include the Crown Commercial Service, ERTICOITS Europe, The ITS Nationals Network, Institute of Highway Engineers, ITS United Kingdom and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

The TTF is managed by LCRIG, the Local Council Roads Innovation Group.
