The latest release of version 3 of DATEX II has been published by the European NAPCORE project with input from UK steered by the STREETWISE committee. Release 3.5 includes updates for traffic management plans, rerouting, and OpenLR location referencing, and improved support for JSON technology.
Release 3.5 is the latest release of version 3, which maintains backwards compatibility with other 3.X releases. In this release, four modules have reached their stable version 3 forms after the corresponding CEN standards have been submitted for formal vote: traffic management plans, enhanced re-routing, and urban extensions, which are all defined in CEN TS 16157-8, and device status and faults which is defined in CEN TS 16157-13.
The updates support distributed traffic management collaboration, and address issues of functionality and quality that had been raised against the previous versions created by small CEN expert teams. A new extension has been added to allow a location reference to be supplied as OpenLR binary. The JSON schema mapping has been improved to support a broader range of code generation frameworks and to remove limitations on validation. The new JSON mapping is tested with the popular “OpenAPI Generator” library with code generation in Python, C#, and Java.
NAPCORE is the European grant-funded project that currently develops DATEX II and other European transport data standards. The UK, represented by National Highways and Mott MacDonald, continues to contribute to the standards development and release management.
